Former Federal Bureau of Investigation head James Comey has denied the charges to providing misleading information to lawmakers and impeding a legislative process.
Mr Comey's lawyer submitted the response acting as his counsel in a federal court in Alexandria, Virginia on Wednesday morning.
Patrick Fitzgerald stated he would seek to have the proceedings terminated for various factors including that his defendant, a critic of President Donald Trump, was being singled out.
James Comey was charged soon after Trump urged his top legal official to proceed against him.
At the proceedings on mid-week, Comey's lawyer Mr Fitzgerald advised the judge they intended to file several petitions to terminate the case before a trial, stating the prosecution was spiteful and that a federal prosecutor was wrongfully appointed to take over the case.
James Comey's case was first managed by a Virginia prosecutor, who resigned under scrutiny from Donald Trump after his investigation into a different opponent - New York Attorney General Letitia James - failed to file indictments.
James Comey appeared in good spirits as he entered the courtroom on mid-week, chatting with his attorneys and being lighthearted. He was joined by his partner, Patrice Failor and offspring his daughter, a federal prosecutor who the former government terminated.
Following the reading to the judge read his constitutional guarantees and the pair of allegations against him in the courtroom on mid-week, James Comey was asked if he understood the accusations.
"I do your honour. Thank you," he informed the court.
James Comey was the head of the FBI from four years and was dismissed about several months into Trump's first administration as commander-in-chief. At the time, Mr Comey was leading an probe into Russian election interference and whether there were any links between Moscow and Trump's campaign.
During his tenure, James Comey caused a counter-response from Democrats when he announced just immediately preceding the 2016 election that he was probing Democratic candidate Clinton's use of a private email server. Indictments against the candidate were never brought, resulting in disapproval from the Republican party as well.
Prosecutors allege James Comey gave untrue statements to US lawmakers during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in 2020 when he was being questioned about both the previous examination as well as the Russia election probe. They say he deceived the upper house by claiming he had not authorized a person at the Federal Bureau of Investigation to release to journalistic entities details about the government examinations.
Legal representatives also accuse the defendant of "corruptly endeavoring to influence, hinder and slow" the committee by providing untrue information to it.
Via social media the former director posted to his Instagram after he was indicted, he declared he was not guilty and accused Trump of conducting himself like a "dictator".
"Our household have been aware for years that there are ramifications to challenging the former president," he said. "We choose not to live on our kneeling."
"I'm innocent," he stated further. "Thus initiate a legal proceeding."
The accusations against James Comey emerged after Trump shared on social media demanding his top legal official, Pam Bondi, charge the former director and others.
